Recipe: Spiced Turmeric Milk with Manuka Honey (1)

The end of September, start of October tends to have unpredictable weather which sways between summer’s last gasp with glorious sun and blue skies, or those damp dark days which make me want to curl up on the sofa under the duvet with a good book, the remote control and stay put until spring.

Ed was under the weather last week, with a sore head, swollen glands so was feeling miserable and rather sorry for himself, so I made him this warm spiced turmeric milk to be sipped from the comfort of the sofa when enveloped in a soft fluffy blanket.

Turmeric is rich in curcurmin – a powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory. Manuka honey, used to sweeten the drink, comes from New Zealand, and contains methyglyoxal, or MGO the active component in the honey, which dictates NPA rating of each jar. The higher the rating the higher the antibacterial properties of the honey, and the more concentrated the flavour. The Rowse 10+ Manuka has a rich, but not overly intense, flavour, is a glorious deep amber colour and is wonderfully thick.

The infusion with the camomile tea will make this drink ideal to ease you into a relaxing night’s, or afternoon’s, sleep.

For an extra dose of turmeric why not serve this with my vegan turmeric cake?

This is such a healing drink with goodness of Turmeric and Honey. When someone is down with bad throat, the first thingy that is suggested way back home is to add some turmeric to some warm milk and also have a concotion of ginger, honey and cinnamon.

I usually rely on a hot toddy when we are under the weather but this sounds much more virtuous! We always have a jar of manuka honey for when we are run down and there’s always tumeric in the cupboard. No excuses not to make this now! I hope Ed is feeling much better now.
